The Adventures of Mr Norbert Waggles - Part 6

One last hug

16 January 2025 - When I met my baby brother nearly 7 years ago, I certainly thought that we would be best friends forever and ever. I mean, why would anyone think otherwise? Unfortunately, I was sorely mistaken. My caretakers have been devastated to say the least. I try to cheer them up by sitting on them, but even that cannot heal their broken hearts. It’s truly unfair! Ove was born and immediately had to have an eye taken. Then cousin Lucy spooked him and he tore his knee. He would often eat tape and glue and fall off the couch, but I always thought he would have more of the nine lives left to keep going.

It happened so fast and honestly, I didn’t notice until it was too late

It happened so fast and honestly, I didn’t notice until it was too late. Bauer and his cousins, Eaton and Howie were visiting for Christmas. I am a gracious host and tried to keep them entertained, but that came at the expense of brother time and Ove was not eating. He lost so much weight that I gasped when I saw him. What food he could eat was not staying down.

He cried on the way to the vet and Evan and Jess cried when he returned home. Leukemia. Incurable. Nothing to be done. Unfair!

Ove was swept up into his tan carrier and gingerly taken out into the cold today and he never came home.

I tried to say ‘goodbye’, but he was defiant to the end, unwilling to show weakness or pain. I loved him so much and I’m not sure any of us will be the same ever again.
